SAT

Purpose:

The SAT is a measure of the critical thinking skills needed for academic success in college. The SAT assesses analytical and problem-solving skills learned in high school that are needed for college. Each section of the SAT is scored on a scale of 200-800, plus two writing sub-scores for multiple-choice and the essay. The tests include critical reading, math and writing. Registration is required for the SAT; students register at www.collegeboard.org

11th and 12th grade students.

Is the SAT test optional or required?

Beginning in Spring 2025, the SAT test is optional for NNHS students; however, college-bound students may need to take it as an admission requirement for some colleges and universities.

What areas does the SAT test cover?

• Critical Reading sections: reading passages and sentence completion
• Math sections: arithmetic operations, algebra, geometry, statistics and probability
• Writing Skills section: identifying errors and improving grammar and usage

How do I register for the SAT?

Students must sign-up on the SAT website (www.collegeboard.org). Under very specific circumstances only, a student can register by mail http://sat.collegeboard.org/register/how-to-register).

Test Fees:

• SAT $68.00
• Late Registration Fee-Additional $38.00

Registration tip: At the time of registration students may indicate 4 colleges to which they would like their SAT score sent at no additional charge. We recommend that students take advantage of this service, as the cost is covered by the registration fee. Four registration score reports are available up to nine days after the test date. If a student wishes to wait until after the test to send scores, the cost is $15 per test date/per report.

Score Delivery Dates

CollegeBoard is making changes to help you get scores and send them to colleges faster than before. Here’s what you need to know about scores from the 2025-26 weekend administrations:

• October, November, December, March, and May scores from the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math sections will be released about two weeks after test day. You'll receive an email when those multiple-choice scores are ready. They will send your scores to colleges within 10 days after they're available to you.
• If you request a paper score report, they will send it once all your scores are ready.
• June and August scores may take longer - up to six weeks for all scores.

Test Day Instructions

Test Location:

Students will choose a test location when registering on www.collegeboard.org. Students should refer to their SAT admission ticket for the exam location. Naperville North will host the SAT on September 13, 2025 & November 8, 2025. Students should arrive at their testing location no later than 7:45 am on the test date.

What should I bring on test day?

Students need to bring their photo ID, their SAT Admission Ticket, #2 non-mechanical pencils, an eraser, and a College Board approved calculator. Students will not be admitted to the test without their Admission Ticket AND Photo ID.

Students may bring a snack for their break. Snacks/drinks must be in sealed and enclosed containers and they will need to be left in the back of the testing room during testing. Students can take their snack into the hallway during break time.

Can I bring my cell phone?

Cell phones and electronic devices are not allowed in testing rooms. If they are brought into the testing room, they must remain powered completely off for the duration of the test, including breaks. A student who gains access to their phone, or has a phone that rings, at any time during the exam or break, will be dismissed from the exam and their score will be canceled.

Score Reporting Information

How do I receive my SAT test scores?

Student scores will be available for on-line viewing on the student's SAT account 5 weeks after the test. If a student would also like a paper score report, it must be requested when they register http://sat.collegeboard.org/scores.
